Veteran’s Day is Today, November 11, 2010 and there are a number of freebies available to veterans, military and their families. As always, I recommend calling ahead to verify that the chains in your area are participating. I have a few deals to tell you about, but I also wanted to share a cute story about my nephew~the marine.
John is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He's tall, handsome and shy with people who don't know him very well. He's been knocked around a little in life like the rest of us, but has come through it nicely. He met the girl of his dreams when he was about 16. He fell in love and spent every minute he could with her since they met. Right after high school John joined the marines and went for boot camp. She faithfully sent him letters and gift packages and the two remained in love.
While on leave, John decided that he wanted to marry her and met his soon to be mother in law at the jewelry store so that she could help him pick out an engagement ring. He only had a few hundred dollars and was dismayed at the high price of the rings available. He started chatting with a fellow customer and was talking about the fact that he was on leave with the marines and was hoping to get engaged to the girl of his dreams. The customer asked "Which ring are you hoping to get for her?" He told the man that he saw one he loved, but it was a few thousand dollars and he only had $500. He then turned and asked the clerk if they had a layaway plan. The clerk came over and the customer that John had been talking to said "You don't need a layaway plan, son, I'll be buying that ring for you to give to your girl~ thanks for serving our country." Here the customer that he had been chatting with had also been a United States Marine and must have seen something of himself in John. John and Mia went on to get married. He actually proposed to her in my driveway. They are still so happy and in love. John returned not too long ago from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Thankfully, he is alive and well. I think of our veterans often. It's such a sacrifice and we appreciate all you do !
